Lennie Lawrence has received a major boost ahead of the start of pre-season with the news that Scott Young has resumed light training.

The 26-year-old Pontypridd-born defender is The Bluebirds' longest-serving player, having turned professional at Ninian Park in July 1994 after completing a YTS programme.

Young played through the pain barrier last season as a niggling groin injury threatened to derail his participation in City's run to the Second Division play-offs.

He started jogging again yesterday and, although he acknowledges the fact that he has a lot of fitness to catch up on, Young is confident that he will soon make up lost ground.

He is also determined to see City make a better start to their campaign than last season's opening, when they managed to win just three of their first 11 league games.
